Scrappy Days

Well hello everyone, hope you all are having a wonderful Saturday! I want to show you a simple project I just made for myself. My purse was getting just a bit heavy for me so I thought, what can I do to make it a little lighter? I gathered a handful of scraps, and to the sewing machine I went.
I have a nice memory of my grandmother using her little scraps of fabric, she would use her flour sacks to make pretty things. I guess I learned from her to use as much of the fabric as I can.
I made this little pouch to carry my sunglasses. I felt that it would be lighter in my purse instead of the heavy metal one that comes with the sunglasses and its much prettier too. I made it quite fast so my sewing is not perfect as you can see, but it serves the purpose.

I love the little pieces that all go together somehow and what once was a bunch of pieces is now something that I can use. I think using scraps in a project is such a good way to recycle, and to use what you have on hand. Putting some thought into it can save you from having to spend extra too.
Enjoy. KS

Crochet

My mom taught me to crochet when I was a teen but I never got into it as much as sewing, still I do love yarn and crochet, it's nice to make warm cozy wearables with yarn. I have made mostly panchos with crochet because of the simplicity of the stitches. Here is a pic of the capelet that I made, mostly meant to wear around the house to keep my shoulders warm as I pitter-patter around my home.

The pretty pink flowery fabric makes it look quite sweet and it feels very comfortable and warm.

I'm still working on baby gifts, dresses, pillow cases, and oh so many ideas. Hope you all have a lovely day. Happy sewing! KS

Something special

Busy, busy lately sewing lots of gifts for family and friends. I found a nice rectangle pillow with a not so pretty cover, so I decided to get it for the purpose of redoing the cover.  I basically made a pillow case and added ties to the ends to make it easy to remove and wash and at the same time give it a sweet bow tie closure at the ends. I quilted the pillow case with little circles. The picture in the middle is from a fabric that I purchased at Beverly's Fabric store.  Here it is, what do you think?

This will be a lovely gift for a family member.
I think my next project will be to finish up some embroidered pillow cases.
I also am working on a capelet that I crocheted, and I am going to experiment and edge it with fabric. Just an idea but we will see how it turns out. Stay tuned.
Well, have fun with your sewing projects, whatever they may be. I'm always trying to come up with new ideas and ways of creating things so feel free to give me some tips.
Happy sewing! KS

Sew cute!

Since I have been sewing baby gifts lately, I now feel they are my favorite things to sew. The patterns are so cute and so easy and fast to make. I found an old Simplicity pattern at the thrift store, and luckily it had all the pieces still in it for the little shoes. So far I have made two blankets, one bonnet, and a pair of little shoes that match as baby shower gifts. This new red bonnet is now in my Etsy shop.
I can still remember my mom making bonnets for us to wear, they were great to keep the sun off your head and face. I think every girl needs to have a bonnet. They are simply adorable.

The soft receiving blankets are made simply by sewing two squares of flannel together and I used an old lace on one of them to embellish it, both came out very pretty and ready for the new mom to wrap her baby girl in.
Have a great week, and hope to hear from you. Keep looking up at the sky! KS

Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! and may all your sewing dreams come true in the new year.
As for today, I have started on my baby gifts. There are baby blankets to sew and I'm thinking of making some baby bonnets. I started on one but not quite finished yet. Hope to show it soon. Well, today is certainly a good day to be thankful to our heavenly Father for all the blessings he gave us last year and for the hope and love we have in him everyday. So enjoy your day! I'm off to sew, sew, sew. KS
